About Poole Brothers Nursery

A Century of Growing Excellence

Our story begins 100 years ago, when brothers Johns and Murphy Poole started what would become a four-generation family legacy in the nursery industry. From humble beginnings on 120 acres in Forest Hill, Louisiana, the Poole family built something extraordinary—not just a business, but a community of growers and plant lovers that would help establish Forest Hill as the “Nursery Capital of Louisiana” by the 1960s.

Rooted in Family, Growing with Purpose

The Poole brothers’ generous spirit led them to help numerous family members establish their own nurseries on the property throughout the 1920s. Many of these operations still thrive today under the Poole Brothers umbrella, a testament to the strong roots—both literal and figurative—that have sustained this business for a century.

Continuing the Legacy

In 1998, Steve and Debbie Head purchased Poole Bros Nursery with a simple but powerful mission: to honor and continue the family’s legacy. They kept the Poole Brothers name, recognizing its positive reputation throughout the community and the industry.

Their commitment to growth didn’t stop there. In 2012, they expanded operations by purchasing George Johnson Nursery, bringing total operating acreage to 250 acres and establishing Poole Brothers as one of the largest wholesale nurseries in the region.

Serving the South and Beyond

Today, Poole Brothers operates its own fleet of trucks and trailers, delivering quality plants from Oklahoma to the Gulf Coast, and north to Tennessee and Virginia. Our wholesale operation serves nurseries and landscapers across the region, while our retail location—just two miles off I-49—remains a beloved destination for plant enthusiasts and home gardeners.

Four Generations Strong

Family remains at the heart of everything we do. Today, Poole Brothers is managed by fourth-generation grower Jay Maloney, ensuring that a century of horticultural expertise continues to guide our operations.
